To Kill A Demon
My acting teacher Giovanni encouraged me to audition for the part of the younger sister in the movie To Kill a Demon. My mom took me on the audition after having me practice the scene at home. The director, Bari, liked my audition and gave me the part.
I had a wonderful two days on the set. The movie was filmed in a beautiful house in the Santa Cruz mountains. On the second day of filming, my Dad and I saw a deer crossing the road right in front of a school crossing sign. Maybe the deer was on the way to summer school.
Everyone on the set was super nice, and I learned a lot watching the crew set up lighting, dollies, and sound equipment. On my first day, I made the director of photography laugh when I said, “OK people, back to one”. It made me feel good when Bari complimented me about my precision in hitting my mark.
I even got to do a bit of stunt work. In the top photo I’m standing on an apple box. In the scene, someone off camera reaches an arm into the frame and pulls me out of the shot. I had to shift my feet quickly to the next apple box while Nick the sound engineer pulled away both apple boxes while the dolly moved forward to where I had been standing. That was a lot of fun.
On day two I met Haley who plays the role of my big sister. Haley’s a super actress. She looked totally different when she had her goth clothing on and the white wig with pink highlights. Haley and i got to do a scene where I’m in the bathtub. In that scene she has to show some really strong emotions, and you could tell how great a job she did by the reactions of the crew. Way to go, Haley.
Nick the sound engineer made me laugh a lot during breaks in filming. Thanks for the pillow fight, Nick. And thanks, Bari, for letting me keep the pillow as a memento.
To Kill a Demon was a great experience for me, another opportunity to practice being professional and applying all I’m learning from acting classes and being on set.
